UPDATE: Pavel Durov, Telegram founder and CEO used Twitter to give insight why Telegram and Telegram X were removed from App Store.
We were alerted by Apple that inappropriate content was made available to our users and both apps were taken off the App Store. Once we have protections in place we expect the apps to be back on the App Store.
One of the most used messaging app Telegram has left everyone speechless as it disappears from the App Store. This also affected the tailored version built for speed Telegram X which was nowhere to be found. The removal of both apps without any notice from the company got every questioning why it was removed.
Opinions had it that probably Telegram’s apps might have violated Apple policies, or the creators decided to take it down for obvious reasons best known to them. The removal of the apps was first noted in a Reddit thread.
A pointer which gives us insight to what might have happened is that Telegram X for Android was unveiled yesterday. A blog post by the company reveals that the project “features apps written from scratch, with an entirely new code base and without all the legacy components that our older apps have accumulated through the years.” This leaves us to think that maybe iPhone versions is undergoing changes and needed to be removed.
It is worth mentioning that Telegram X will bring improvement in speed, ease of use, quality of animations and all other aspects.
