The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was declared pandemic and ever since then there has been a lot of misinformation or fake news spreading online. In order to curb this, WhatsApp in partnership with World Health Organization (WHO) unveiled a new free-to-use service to pass genuine and trusted information on Coronavirus.
The WHO Health Alert Service, as it is called, will be available 24 hours a day and globally accessible using WhatsApp. Information published on the page will be official and timely.
The service will support the English language first and later be available in Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish.
They will cover topics such as protecting yourself from the virus, travel guide during the pandemic, exposing false Coronavirus rumours and beliefs, frequently asked questions, etc.
How to use the WHO’s Health Alert Service on WhatsApp
To start using the service, do the following:
- Create a new contact on your iPhone or Android device and enter the phone number +41 79 893 1892. Afterwards, click save.
- Launch WhatsApp on your smartphone and navigate to the name used in saving it.
- Chat them up with ‘Hi‘ to get started and wait for instant feedback.
